I am looking at adding a 2022+ M440i or possibly an M4 and would love some opinions on wheels! I am looking at either a green or blue exterior. Sharing a photo of one that catches my eye at the moment. What wheels would y'all recommend checking out?
Good question. For a full set of wheels, I think $3500 is about where I'd start to tap out. I won't be tracking it, but having good traction will be a plus for highway pulls and Lime Creek style runs for spirited driving. I already fully accept that separately a set of tires is going to run me $1-2k depending on what I get.
I am kind of dumb with AWD cars - do I need to stick to the same wheel + tire diameter for xDrive? Will tire/wheel width interfere with the system?
I believe most of the xDrive cars are "staggered" from the factory, meaning rears are bigger than front. On the M3 xDrive, for example, the rears 1" larger diameter and 1" wider than the front. I know you had staggered on the Mustang, but just stating the definition in case anyone ever reads this post and wonders what "staggered" means.
Apex Wheels is a great supplier for BMW, and also produce very nice guides for fitment. Here's one for the m440i with lots of options, including clear indicators for which ones would be xDrive compatible.
Things to consider:
1. A square configuration would give you the most flexibility (rotating tires).
2. Sidewalls that are 35 or 40 ratio will give you the most comfort.
3. Staggered setups would give you most traction.
4. A 30 sidewall in the rear will give you the widest possible wheel/tire (295/30 19") but you'll sacrifice comfort.
